Exigence

Why its needed

At first, I understood the term “Exigence” as what I would be demanding to someone using writing. After taking ENGL 21007, I learned that, although not entirely the same, my concept doesn’t fall that far from the tree. Exigence, as stated in the title, is what makes you write, what issue or situation motivates you to demand/react/act using rhetoric speech or writing in general.

Exigence is crucial since it can be confused with intent. At the start of this course, I assumed that it was just purpose. I didn’t grasp exigence very well, and I used to believe that purpose and exigence were the same thing. Now to be honest I don’t really understand it 100 percent but i can make a distinction now. To me now i can tell that exigence is why the work is needed while purpose is the reason for why you’re writing. I do believe I’ve learned a lot becuase at the beginning of class i had no idea what it was.

In the above image i explain my exigence which at this point of the class i was still and kind of still am confused between the difference between exigence and purpose.
